Nidus Ballet

Ballet has always been a popular style of dance especially where little girls are concerned. Apart from the obvious attraction of wearing the pretty dancewear and dressing up in costumes to perform shows, it also appeals greatly to the child’s imagination. Most little girls seem to want to be a swan or a beautiful princess. Alongside this there are many other advantages to taking ballet lessons; it can improve posture and stance as well as stamina strength and coordination. All this combined with the stimulation that music can bring makes ballet dancing a very appealing hobby which for some pupils can be carried on to become a profession.

The pupils/students are taught in a stimulating and fun atmosphere but they also learn something of the discipline that you need to succeed in becoming a good dancer.

Ballet pupils are regularly entered for exams with the ISTD. The age limit for the first exam (Primary) is 5 years. They can then work their way up through the standard or grade examinations depending on ability and how many sessions they wish to attend. If a pupil / student wishes to start ballet when they are older, they will be slotted into a suitable class for their age. As well as exam work they will be taught unset work and also have the opportunity to dance in various presentations and shows put on through the Nidus Ballet School and Nidus Theatre Arts.

The Nidus Ballet School was set up in April 2002 by its principal Gabriela Nicholson Dunbar and her sister Heidi Nicholson. Pupils are taken from 3 years & 10 mths onwards and will be placed in a group suitable for their age and ability.

The method of ballet taught is Ceccheti ISTD and pupils are entered for exams as well as being taught fun and imaginative work alongside the exam syllabus where they develop basic co-ordination & technique.
