Nicholas Dunbar was born in Leicester and started dancing at the age of three with his mother Christine Dunbar, a respected dance teacher and examiner for the IDTA. At 16 he successfully auditioned for the Arts Educational School in Chiswick, London, where he spent three years studying ballet and the performing arts. In 1990 he won the prestigious Markova Award for classical ballet and was also the winner of the ISTD Advanced Award.
After graduating he toured Britain with the Lewis London Ballet Company as a soloist and danced in The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Alice in Wonderland. In 1991 he joined the cast of The Phantom of the Opera in Hamburg, Germany. Nick danced the role of the Slave Master and covered featured singing and acting roles as well as being Assistant Dance Captain and occasionally In House Director. After taking singing lessons he developed a rich baritone voice and was given a place in the musical Sunset Boulevard in Wiesbaden, Germany. Nick and Gabi returned to Britain in 1999 and whilst Gabi recovered from a foot injury Nick danced in Beauty And The Beast (Disney) in London’s West End. He also understudied the roles of The Beast and Gaston and was Fight Captain for the production.
His next venture in the west end was in the original cast for the musical Napoleon (Mal Malson). He also assisted the director and was Fight Captain. In 2002 he travelled to Tokyo, Japan as a principal singer where he performed a gruelling 4-5 shows a day in Broadway Encore (Disney International) at the opening of the new Disney Sea theme park. Nick enjoys having the opportunity to help youngsters to develop as performers and believes that sharing the wealth of experience he has gained over his years in show business will be of great benefit to all the students involved. Nick also teaches the separate boys’ ballet class.
